June 7, 2025 - United States vs. Türkiye (men’s international friendly)
The U.S. Men’s National Team kicked off its Concacaf Gold Cup preparations with the first of two friendlies, taking on Türkiye in wet and inclement conditions at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. The match marked a homecoming for Charlotte FC forward Patrick Agyemang, who earned his third start and fifth international cap. Matt Freese, Alex Freeman, Nathan Harriel, and Quinn Sullivan all made their first USMNT appearances.
The action came early and often in the first half. Jack McGlynn opened the scoring for the U.S. just one minute in, blasting a shot from distance to give the Stars and Stripes a dream start. Türkiye answered in the 24th minute through Real Madrid’s rising star Arda Güler, who found the equalizer. Three minutes later, Kerem Aktürkoğlu added a second to put the visitors ahead 2-1.
McGlynn recorded his second career goal for the senior national team—his first since scoring in a 3-1 over Venezuela in January. Güler, meanwhile, tallied his fifth goal, with his previous four all coming in official competition, including a strike against Georgia at UEFA Euro 2024.
Despite both sides creating chances after the break, no further goals were scored, and Türkiye held on for the win. They would go on to lose 1-0 to Mexico in their following friendly in North Carolina.
The USMNT, meanwhile, suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to Switzerland in their final warm-up. They rebounded to win their Gold Cup group and defeated Costa Rica and Guatemala in the knockout rounds before falling to Mexico in the final.
