September 25, 2024 - Brooklyn FC vs. Dallas Trinity (USL Super League)

It was a debut three years in the making. Announced in 2023, Brooklyn FC had to wait an additional three weeks to play their first home match in the inaugural USL Super League. Their opener, originally set for August 31 against Carolina Ascent, was postponed due to turf issues at their intended home ground, Maimonides Park in Coney Island. In the meantime, the club began its home schedule with a 2-0 victory over Dallas Trinity FC at Columbia University’s Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.

Under newly appointed head coach Jessica Silva, the BKFC impressed with high-energy pressing, solid structure at the back, and quick flank attacks The breakthrough came early in the match when Rutgers alumna Sam Kroeger—crucial in anticipation and pressing—drove a turnover that set up a long-range strike from hometown favorite Jessica Garziano. Her shot from about 25 yards out dipped under the crossbar and ignited a roar from the Commisso Stadium stands. Seven minutes before halftime, Mackenzie George played a pivotal role in the second goal as she set up Hope Breslin for a shot, which the keeper could only parry, allowing George to tap in and double the lead.

Brooklyn carried that momentum into the second half, managing the game effectively with Puerto Rican international Sydney Martinez maintaining a clean sheet between the sticks. Having earned their first-ever win 11 days prior at the Tampa Bay Sun, the 2-0 result marked the club’s first home win in history.
