August 20, 2025 - Gotham FC vs. CF Monterrey (Concacaf W Champions Cup)
Gotham FC raised the curtain on their 2025–26 Concacaf W Champions Cup campaign with a gritty 2–1 victory over CF Monterrey Femenil at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, marking the club’s first-ever match in New York City-proper. The win also signaled the start of their title defense as inaugural champions, and they delivered it in challenging conditions, with heavy rain impacting play all night.
Bruninha opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a composed finish from a Josefine Hasbo assist. Gotham built on that momentum, and in the 24th minute, Emily Sonnett maneuvered into the box and delivered a measured pass to Khyah Harper, who calmly converted her shot from the center of the area to double the lead. Monterrey cut the deficit in the 32nd minute when Marcela Restrepo pounced on a rebound off the crossbar and slotted it home.
The hosts held on to the 2-1 result. Bruninha was named the Superior Player of the Match presented by Michelob Ultra before being presented as the Player of the Week. Gotham concluded matchday one in second place in Group B, only behind Washington Spirit, who dropped seven goals on Alianza FC in El Salvador the night prior.
